The theme for the upcoming issue #5 (Spring, 13’) of my fanzine Muchacha is “Brown Queen: Latina Voices of the 21st Century”. I am calling out to Latina/Chicana/Hispanic identified women worldwide to contribute their voices though an array of mediums including poetry, essays, art, comics, etc. I want this issue to serve as a time capsule for future generations of Brown women. Let our voices be heard and let us pick up the pieces and continue the lessons of our foremothers. As Gloria Anzaldúa brilliantly said: “I will no longer be made to feel ashamed of existing. I will have my voice: Indian, Spanish, white. I will have my serpent’s tongue - my woman’s voice, my sexual voice, my poet’s voice. I will overcome the tradition of silence.”
Join me in overcoming the traditions of silence. To submit your contributions contact me at Riotgrrrl56@yahoo.com with “Brown Queen” as the subject. Deadline for submissions is March 1st, 2013.

To get into holiday spirit I would like to thank the Universe for all of the support I have received lately. In attempt to say thanks I have decided to do a “buy one, get one free” special for my feminist fanzine “Muchacha”. This special offer will only be happening between Tuesday, November 13th and Friday, November 23rd.
How it works: When you buy an issue on etsy simply attach a message telling me what other issue you would like. You are welcome to choose an extra copy of the same issue you buy. Also, if you would rather send a check/money order e-mail me at Riotgrrrl56@yahoo.com for details.
So after applying to several more jobs with still no luck here is where I’m at: I have 5 days to go to make my $550 rent. Thanks to all of the support, I have almost reached my rent quota. I only need to sell $100 worth of zines to stop from being kicked to the curb! With the help of all of you badass feminists and/or rad zinester-loving folks who know what it’s like to be struggling financially, I’m restocked and ready to sell more! Visit my etsy here. I have 4 issues, $1.50 a copy plus shipping. Each is half the cost of a Starbucks coffee!
Re-blog and support feminist zinesters! I will love you forever.
Just received a whole ton of copies of the latest issue (# 111) of Slingshot!, an anarchist newspaper based out of Berkeley that started up in 88’, and guess whose fanzine was reviewed at the end!? Yep you guessed it.. MINE! =) I was absolutely ecstatic!! This is the first published review of my fanzine and it was written by none other than the magnificent Robert Eggplant who is an amazing zinester, musician and activist. He is a master at what he does and a real inspiration to keep making zines and to make the world a better place. Here’s what he had to say about issue #3. <3 (thanks for the review and all of the copies man, you’re the best)
Muchacha #3 $1 muchachafanzine.tumblr.com A mermaid adorns the cover with an ocean of ideas inside. Like a coral reef, there’s several pages of busy action to fill the eyes with complex collages, essays on current events, quotes, lists of cool bands, inspired lyrics destroying American Idol, historical sketches of activists, and manifestos. There are a few hands in the works, but the guiding force is one person focused on feminism and her family’s roots with Mexico. She started this zine as an endeavor to help represent a new movement called Feminism Is Not Dead (F.I.N.D.), Riot Grrrl being a major influence. This is an ideal publication to absorb during long waits at the DMV, while train-hopping, or during a life of working for real political change.
2 nights of printing, sorting, folding, stapling and packaging. I am in utter disbelief at all of the unbelievable support I have received the past two days. Thanks to anyone who bought my fanzine! It really means more than I can put into words. I’ve restocked my zines on my etsy shop if anyone who hasn’t already bought a copy is interested. I’m gonna keep em’ coming.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU I FUCKING LOVE YOU ALL!!!!! (screaming and jumping up and down hysterically & remembering all of you for when I win the lottery)
If you buy any issue of my fanzine I will publicly show you my immense gratitude by featuring your name in my next issue (along with any project or website you want to advertise) and telling the world how fucking awesome you are for helping me out!
If you are unable to buy one. I would be more than thankful if you just pleasereblogged this post!
Muchacha Issue #4 Winter 12’ “The Funny Female Issue”
In the midst of the whole “feminism & comedy” debate this summer after the Daniel Tosh fiasco (where he told a girl in the audience that he would find it amusing if she were gang raped), people were beginning to make false claims that feminists were being “too serious” and couldn’t “take a joke” . I thought about how the feminists in my life are the most hilarious people I have ever known. I reflected upon the funny female comedians, writers and humorous women on television that I have listened to, read and watched for years. I knew what the next theme of my fanzine needed to be…
This diverse 38 page issue contains a variety of submissions and pieces from hilarious self-identified feminists. Subject matter ranges from feminist performance pieces (“Size 2 Pants”-Guerrilla Girls on Tour!, “How to seduce a feminist”-Sarah Fox), Feminist Disney, comics ( “The Migrant Rights Activista on Her 21st B-day” “El Senor Bobo..”) the five stages of death concerning feminism within pop, men’s menstruation, satirical feminist songs, the debate between comedy and feminism itself, feminist jokes, Female Comics of Color, Samantha Bee on Abortion, “The Wisdom of Fran Lebowitz”, Daria Morgendorffer, fictional heroines and more! This issue is dedicated to every feminist who has ever been labeled “too angry” “too serious” or “too uptight”.
Cuz we have to fight the powers that be no matter how fucked up we are ourselves. And I guess that’s what this fanzine’s about. We are trying to figure out how we can do these things, enact the revolution right here and right now, and still survive. Cuz we do need music that we understand and we do need friends who love and support us and we do need to have fun. But fun doesn’t have to mean denial or escapism, it can mean struggling, confronting, trusting, and being scared sometimes, together instead of always alone.
Muchacha Issue #3 “The Adventures Of A Feminist Mermaid” Summer 12’, 26 pgs: This eclectic issue covers part 1 of my adventures of being a feminist mermaid, Mexico’s drug war and a “Fierce Feminist” who fought for education. Other topics range from the “Sandwich Fairies” and homeless rights, intersectionality, a book review, film and band recommendations, original song lyrics, feminist poetry, quotes, punk/feminist styled collages and more!
