Help A Fellow Feminist Not Be Kicked Out On The Street By Buying A Copy of My $1.50 Fanzine

I wouldn’t normally publicly announce this but I’m a bit desperate. If all of my followers were to simply buy ONE copy of this issue then I will be able to pay my rent next month and won’t be kicked out into the street and, therefore, I will be able to create more awesome zines for you all!! (It’s a little bit strenuous if you’re homeless). Or buying any of my issues would help tremendously.

If you buy any issue of my fanzine I will publicly show you my immense gratitude by featuring your name in my next issue (along with any project or website you want to advertise) and telling the world how fucking awesome you are for helping me out!

If you are unable to buy one. I would be more than thankful if you just please reblogged this post!

Muchacha Issue #4 Winter 12’
“The Funny Female Issue”

In the midst of the whole “feminism & comedy” debate this summer after the Daniel Tosh fiasco (where he told a girl in the audience that he would find it amusing if she were gang raped), people were beginning to make false claims that feminists were being “too serious” and couldn’t “take a joke” . I thought about how the feminists in my life are the most hilarious people I have ever known. I reflected upon the funny female comedians, writers and humorous women on television that I have listened to, read and watched for years. I knew what the next theme of my fanzine needed to be…

This diverse 38 page issue contains a variety of submissions and pieces from hilarious self-identified feminists. Subject matter ranges from feminist performance pieces (“Size 2 Pants”-Guerrilla Girls on Tour!, “How to seduce a feminist”-Sarah Fox), Feminist Disney, comics ( “The Migrant Rights Activista on Her 21st B-day” “El Senor Bobo..”) the five stages of death concerning feminism within pop, men’s menstruation, satirical feminist songs, the debate between comedy and feminism itself, feminist jokes, Female Comics of Color, Samantha Bee on Abortion, “The Wisdom of Fran Lebowitz”, Daria Morgendorffer, fictional heroines and more! This issue is dedicated to every feminist who has ever been labeled “too angry” “too serious” or “too uptight”.

DISPROVE THE IDEA THAT FEMINISTS AREN’T FUNNY!

This is for any funny feminist who is tired of being labeled “too serious”.

For the fourth issue of my fanzine Muchacha I have decided that the theme be “Who Says Feminists Don’t Have A Sense of Humor?” The purpose of this issue is to combat the stereotype that feminists are always angry/unfunny/too serious/uptight. I’m looking for satirical/humorous thoughts, poetry, stories, essays, quotes, rants, analysis, art, collages, doodles, comics, or photography from a feminist perspective. Whether it’s half a page or 4 pages, e-mail me (Daisy) at Riotgrrrl56@yahoo.com to submit your work. The deadline is September 1st. Help me in reclaiming the fact that “funny feminist” is not an oxymoron.

Please reblog for open submissions. I would really appreciate it.

Funny Feminists Unite!

Comedy & Feminism Enemies?

On The Daily Show, Louis C.K. said the controversy over Daniel Tosh’s rape joke boils down to ‘a fight between comedians and feminists, which are natural enemies.’ Media critic Jennifer L. Pozner talks to nine comedians about C.K., Tosh, and whether feminism and comedy are natural combatants.

“The debate could have been between feminists and comedians if the subject of debate were an actual joke. As a feminist who does satire and has a rape joke in my routine, I’m all for subversive and challenging humor, but not unfunny, clichéd, obvious, sexist statements dressed up as jokes. Saying feminists aren’t funny is like saying men aren’t funny. There are funny and unfunny feminists, and there are funny and unfunny men. Why don’t people ever reference funny feminists like Margaret Cho as evidence that feminists are funny? It’s much more convenient to dismiss all feminists as humorless because it protects comedians, and sexist non-comedians, from valid criticism.” -Katie Halper

“Satire is traditionally the weapon of the powerless against the powerful. I only aim at the powerful. When satire is aimed at the powerless, it is not only cruel—it’s vulgar.” -Molly Ivins

“I believe you can joke about anything. It all depends on how you construct the joke, what the exaggeration is..” - George Carlin
